THE TALL PINES

"With long straight hair falling over sky-high cheekbones and a penchant for floor-length dresses, Connie Petruk looks like she stepped out of late ’60s/early ’70s Nashville and sings like the lost sister of Bobbie Gentry or Dusty Springfield. Her honeyed alto will melt the frost off your windshield, and the band’s confident backing matches her attitude flawlessly. The Tall Pines are equal parts soul and twang, molasses and moonshine, sass and skill. The songs, all written by Christmas Davis and inspired by his Southern upbringing, evoke the heyday of the country-soul hybrid without ever sounding unoriginal, a difficult feat.”~ Meredith Ochs: NPR

The Tall Pines are Connie Lynn Petruk & Christmas Davis, a shack-shakin’ duo who weld together their love of garage-rock, southern-soul, classic-country, swamp-rock, dirty-blues, and drive-in-movie aesthetics, to create their own style of bare-bones Rock & Roll, with sticky song writing, and an energetic live show that you will not forget.

With Connie Lynn singing and playing drums on her vintage (faux) alligator skin suitcase, and Christmas playing guitar and howling along, The Tall Pines have performed live at the legendary Stagecoach Festival, in Indio, CA. They’ve headlined the Village Trip Music Festival in New York City’s Washington Square Park. They perform annually at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Northwest Florida. They have been special guests in Laura Cantrell's "United States of Country" live music series, and they’ve brought their distinct sound to many other music festivals and live events, including opening sets for Steve Earle, Norah Jones, Nikki Lane, Tav Falco, Amy Ray (of The Indigo Girls), Alejandro Escovedo, Charlie Louvin, Justin Townes Earle, Jimbo Mathus, and more.

The hosts of “The Tall Pines Revue,” an ongoing live music production in collaboration with The New York Public Theater - birthplace of “Hair,” and “Hamilton” -  Connie & Christmas have created a live music series reminiscent of a 1970’s television variety show, which features performances by an eclectic variety of impressive artists from across the country that have included: Lenny Kaye, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, Liz Vice, Cat Popper, Tammy Faye Starlite, Michael Cerveris, Comedian Cliff Cash and many more

The Tall Pines self-titled first album was featured by NPR as one of the Top Ten Best Albums of the Year. The songs on their most recent full-length LP, “Skeletons of Soul,” (available on limited edition vinyl) premiered as a live performance on DJ Gaylord Fields' radio show on revered indie station WFMU FM NYC / Jersey City. They were recorded shortly after these live transmissions by Record Producer Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, The Black Keys, Norah Jones) at Studio G, Brooklyn. The Tall Pines recently finished recording nine new songs - also with producer Joel Hamilton - which they’re releasing as singles throughout 2024. The Tall Pines have been featured artists on Ditty TV, SiriusXM Radio's "Road Dog Trucking" show, WDVX Radio's "Blue Plate Special," WFMU, WJFF, WPKN, WUWF's "Acoustic Interlude" & "RadioLive" shows, and their music has been included in an intimate apparel ad campaign by Wacoal America, and in the indie film "The Virginity Hit," produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Amy Hobby.

The Tall Pines play road-trip music for everyday life, juke-joint pit stops, and out of body experiences.

We hope that you'll join us for the ride.

“If a duo ever sounded bigger than its parts, The Tall Pines sound it with undeniable choruses and songs full of intriguing narratives, reflect the 60’s wizardry of The Zombies and the modern biting edge of The Kills. Soul, country, swamp, heartache and neo-blues are just some of the sounds coming off their voices and instruments.”  ~ Glide Magazine

“There’s a very 1970’s feel to the delivery which mixes folk, country and a little bit of soul and yet I can’t think of a band who make it work better than these two do. In a world where we are so often overpowered by all that is around us, The Tall Pines strip things back and bring with them, through their music, a much needed reminder that sometimes, simpler is better – it certainly is here.” ~ Popwrapped

“Allow us to introduce you to The Tall Pines, a shack-shaking, foot stompin’ Americana masterpiece bringing folk back to the heart of the New York boroughs.” ~ East of 8th

“Connie Lynn Petruk and Christmas Davis deliver gritty yet soulful folk music that gets your hands clapping and your feet stomping. It’s unlike anything else coming out of Brooklyn—or anywhere, for that matter.” + “The Tall Pines, Brooklyn’s Electrifying Americana Duo.” ~ The Shotgun Seat

“The Civil Wars are certainly civil compared to The Tall Pines. They do not fear to tread where more tender souls would be burned to a crisp.” ~ Amos Perrine: No Depression
